Kaomoji meaning

(T_T) meaning
T_T crying face

(T_T) is a crying face where each T is an eye with a tear running straight down. It means "so sad," "I'm crying" or "ugh, why me." It is one of the most common crying faces in Asian chat.

Also called: T_T · tears

Where it comes from

The top bar of each T is a closed eye and the stem is a stream of tears. It is read upright, East Asian style, and is hugely popular in Korean and Japanese messaging.

When to use it

Use it for disappointments, sympathy or being moved. It's light enough for everyday chat but still reads as sad, so don't use it as a joke with someone who is truly upset.

Examples

  • I failed my driving test (T_T)
  • They cancelled the season (T_T)
