How a kaomoji is built
Almost every kaomoji is the same six parts in the same order. Once you see them, you can read — and make — any face.
01 Face
Brackets draw the outline of the head: ( ) for most faces, ʕ ʔ for bears, ༼ ༽ for big dramatic ones.
02 Eyes
Two characters, usually a mirrored pair. ^ ^ is smiling, ; ; is crying, ಠ ಠ is a hard stare. The eyes carry most of the feeling.
03 Mouth
One character in the middle: ‿ smiles, ω is a soft cat mouth, Д shouts, ε blows a kiss.
04 Cheeks
Optional marks next to the eyes. * or 〃 add a blush, ๑ makes the face rounder and cuter.
05 Arms
Characters outside (or just inside) the brackets. ヽ ノ throws both hands up, ٩ ۶ cheers, ¯\_ _/¯ shrugs.
06 Extra
Anything after the face sets the scene: ♡ for love, ✧ for sparkle, zzZ for sleep, ︵ ┻━┻ for a flipped table.
